ABOUT SOEN
Soen are a Swedish progressive metal band formed in 2010, known for blending atmospheric heaviness with emotional depth and disciplined songcraft. The band is built around vocalist Joel Ekelöf and drummer Martin Lopez, whose writing partnership anchors a sound that moves fluidly between light and dark, calm and force, melody and weight. Since their formation, Soen have established a distinct identity within modern progressive metal, combining introspection with power rather than excess.
Across six studio albums, Soen have developed a reputation for music that explores the human condition with clarity and restraint, focusing on themes of inner conflict, resilience, connection and reflection. Their approach favours emotional honesty over technical showmanship, allowing layered arrangements, dynamics and atmosphere to serve the songs rather than overwhelm them. With Cody Lee Ford, Lars Åhlund and bassist Stefan Stenberg completing the line-up, the band continues to evolve while maintaining a strong sense of cohesion and purpose.
That evolution continues with Reliance, Soen’s seventh studio album, released via Silver Lining Music in January 2026. Building on the emotional weight and compositional confidence of 2023’s Memorial, Reliance sees the band pushing further into the space between heaviness and vulnerability, with songs such as ‘Primal’ capturing both raw frustration and a sense of hard-won hope. Thoughtful, immersive and resolutely human, Reliance stands as the latest chapter in Soen’s ongoing exploration of the mind, heart and soul.
