ABOUT SAXON

Saxon are an English heavy metal band formed in Barnsley in 1975 and widely recognised as one of the leading forces of the new wave of British heavy metal. Rising to prominence at the turn of the 1980s, the band enjoyed sustained chart success throughout the decade, scoring eight UK Top 40 albums, including four Top 10 releases and two Top 5 albums, alongside numerous hit singles on the UK Singles Chart.

During the 1980s, Saxon established themselves as one of Europe’s most successful metal acts, building a formidable international following through relentless touring and a run of era-defining albums that helped shape British heavy metal’s global identity. Their influence and popularity extended well beyond the UK, with major success across Europe, South America and Japan, as well as a strong foothold in the United States and Canada. To date, Saxon have sold over 23 million records worldwide and continue to tour regularly, maintaining their status as one of heavy metal’s most enduring live bands.

That legacy is powerfully captured on Eagles Over Hellfest, released via Silver Lining Music in June 2025. Featuring the audio recording of Saxon’s sensational Hellfest 2024 performance, the release celebrates the band as they look ahead to their “Castles & Eagles” headline shows in France later in 2025. As frontman Biff Byford puts it: “The band in full blazing glory on an unforgettable night with a dynamite set list – it’s EPIC!”
