ABOUT GRAND SLAM
Grand Slam are a band shaped by destiny, persistence and unfinished business finally brought into focus. For co-founding member Laurence Archer and frontman Mike Dyer, the journey has always been about craft, chemistry and timing — early unions that left stories untold, and a present-day line-up determined to finish what was started, on their own terms.
That story comes fully into view on Wheel Of Fortune, released on 7 June 2024 via Silver Lining Music. It is the sound of a band not returning to a past, but fulfilling their present and future with confidence and intent. The album absorbs the best elements of Grand Slam’s history and fuses them with decades of experience and renewed creative drive, resulting in songs that feel both familiar and fiercely alive.
From Archer’s faultless, fearless fret-driven song architecture on ‘Spitfire’, to Dyer’s swagger and style on ‘There Goes My Heart’, Wheel Of Fortune is rich with personality and purpose. There are moments such as ‘Come Together (In Harlem)’ where the moody strut of original co-founder Phil Lynott is unmistakable, while the multi-layered, steamy swing of ‘Pirate Song’ makes it equally clear that Grand Slam are moving forward, not looking back.
Joined by Benjy Reid on drums and Rocky Newton on bass, Grand Slam’s rebirth was briefly stalled by the global shutdown, but the creative fire only burned stronger. Wheel Of Fortune stands as a statement of intent — a fresh invigoration of the project, driven by willfulness, desire and a band fully committed to the here and now.
