ABOUT GIRLSCHOOL
Girlschool are British rock royalty and one of the most important bands to emerge from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Formed in London in 1978, and closely associated with contemporaries such as Motörhead, they are the longest-running all-female rock band in history, still active more than 40 years on. Fierce, uncompromising and endlessly road-hardened, Girlschool have carved out a legacy built on grit, attitude and absolute dedication to rock ’n’ roll.
Rising to prominence in the early 1980s, Girlschool enjoyed major success with albums such as Demolition and Hit and Run, becoming a defining force of the NWOBHM era. They toured relentlessly, co-headlining and supporting some of the biggest names in hard rock and metal, while earning a reputation as a formidable live band with a no-nonsense attitude. Across decades of touring, festivals and lineup changes, Girlschool have maintained a worldwide cult following and remain a huge inspiration to generations of female rock musicians.
That spirit burns brighter than ever on WTFortyfive?, released on 28 July 2023 via Silver Lining Music. Their 14th studio album is a deliciously dirty declaration that age is nothing more than a measure of raw attitude. From the motor-charged scuzz of ‘It Is What It Is’ to the smart, sassy hooks of ‘Believing In You’, the album delivers twelve statements of intent packed with crunch, melody and unapologetic power. Featuring guest appearances from Biff Byford, Phil Campbell and Duff McKagan, WTFortyfive? proves Girlschool remain as fresh, fun, heavy and relevant as ever. Lemmy knew – and Girlschool continue to prove it.
